ezgif Alternative: An Honest Comparison

5 min read · Updated 14 October 2026

ezgif is where a lot of us learned to make GIFs, and it's still very good. This isn't a page about why you should leave it. It's about when another tool does the job faster, and when it doesn't. We run Online GIF Maker, so take that into account, and check ezgif for what it does today.

Where ezgif is the better choice

  • It does more. Splitting a GIF into frames, rotating, adding effects, analysing a file, working with AVIF, JXL or SVG. We don't do those.
  • Bigger files. If your source is over 100 MB, ezgif's higher limit will matter.
  • A local mode. Some of its tools can run in your browser without uploading the file, which is what you want for something sensitive.
  • Track record. It has been around a long time and a lot of people trust it. We're newer.

Where this site is the better choice

  • You can see the size before you convert. Change the width, frame rate or trim and the estimate moves, so you don't convert, find it's 14 MB, and start again.
  • Fit to a limit. Pick 8 MB, 16 MB, 20 MB or an emoji size and it chooses the best settings that fit.
  • It's one screen. Trim, crop, caption, speed up or reverse without bouncing between pages.
  • No ads. The page is just the tool.
  • Extras for sharing. A share link and embed code for a finished GIF, a meme generator for pictures that never leaves your browser, and a GIF downloader for links.

FAQ

Quick answers

Can’t find yours? The converter explains problems in plain language as they come up.

Is this site a replacement for ezgif?

For making a GIF from a video and shrinking it to fit somewhere, often yes. For the long list of small specialist tools ezgif has, no. Plenty of people will want both bookmarked.

Which one is better for a quick reaction GIF?

Whichever you prefer working in. Here you trim, crop, caption and see the file size on one screen before converting. ezgif splits the job over several pages but gives you more tools along the way.

Is either one safe to use with private videos?

Read each site's privacy policy rather than trusting a comparison page. Here, uploads are processed on our server and deleted automatically after an hour. ezgif says some of its tools can run locally in your browser without uploading.

Are you affiliated with ezgif?

No. We're an independent site and this comparison is our own reading of what both sites offer in October 2026. Sites change, so check theirs for the current details.
